Benazir Ahmed joined Bangladesh Police as an assistant police superintendent (ASP) in 1988
Benazir Ahmed, the newly appointed inspector general of police, met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.
He met the prime ministe on Wednesday morning.
During the meeting Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Mostafa Kamal Uddin, senior secretary of Public Security Division under Ministry of Home Affairs, presented the badge of IGP to Benazir.
Sheikh Hasina was also present at the ceremony, confirmed the prime minister’s Assistant Press Secretary Emrul Kayes.
Previously on Monday, Benazir Ahmed stepped down from the post of Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Abdullah Al Mamun, the chief of the criminal investigation department (CID) of police, will replace Benazir as DG of RAB.
Benazir Ahmed joined Bangladesh Police as an assistant police superintendent (ASP) in 1988.
He has served in various important positions in the country’s law enforcement agencies, including as chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He had been serving as the RAB DG since January 2015.
