Bogura toxic liquor: Death toll reaches 16

Death toll from Bogura toxic liquor incident reached 16. They died after reportedly drinking toxic liquor in different areas of sadar upazila from Sunday night to Tuesday night.

The deceased were Ramjan Ali, 40, Sumon Rabidas, 30, his father Premnath Rabidas, 60, his uncle Ramnath, Polash Miah, 35, Saju, 55, Mozahar Ali, 75, Abdul Jalil, 65, rickshaw puller Julfiqar Rahman, 56, Abdur Rahim, 42, Alamgir, 40, Abdur Razzaq, 42, Mehedi Hasan, 25, Abdul Ahad, 38, auto-rickshaw driver Abul Kalam, 50, and Laju Miah.

They were the residents of Tinmatha, Kalitola, Fulbari and Katnerpara areas under Sadar upazila and Kahaloo, Shahjahanpur and Sariakandi upazilas.

Shahjahanpur Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun said the bodies were sent to a local hospital morgue.

A case was lodged on Monday night over the issue. Three people have been made accused–Khan Homeo Hall owner Shahinur Rahman Shahin, Parul and Punam Homeo Halls’ owners Nur Alam and Nur Nabi– in the lawsuit.
