Learning a Foreign Language to be a Global Citizen

In today’s fast changing IT World, we need to know various languages not only as a means of communication but also for our professional life, to present ourselves in a superior way. We know that English is used as a professional language in the areas of science and technology, business and global communication. Besides that, other languages are useful for travelling purposes. In the scenario of Bangladesh, we see that many people considered as academics, are very weak when it comes to actually speaking the English Language. As a result, the business people are unable to communicate with their clients, the students are unsuccessful in their job interviews at reputed foreign companies, and many students and professionals alike are returning from various work forces abroad because of their limited knowledge of English. When it comes to the Bangladeshi folks, we see that they cannot truly express their mind. There is a gap. A communication gap! It is this gap that the Dhaka Language Club wishes to diminish.

Since its establishment in 1995, the Dhaka  Language Club has come a long way. Presently equipped with more than sixty pupils. It uses   systems which, according to founder and President Prof. Masud A. Khan,  is a more effective method of improvement. Concentrating more on dialogue practice, Masud wishes to prepare the students to face the international market with the skill and confidence that the students require. When the students are able to present themselves more effectively orally, it boosts their esteem and self confidence.”This is the kind of confidence we want our students to have when competing in the global scenario”

At the present age English is a must in order to communicate and to keep up with the developed world. One has to be skilled in the English language if s/he wants to have a career in any profession in this world. Beside English, the other languages taught here are, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, German, Italian, French and Bangla.

When the students are able to present themselves more effectively orally, it boosts their esteem and self-confidence. “This is the kind of confidence we want our students to have when competing in the global scenario”

Speaking of French, we can argue that its importance is next to the English Language, French speaking people are Europe, Canada and various other countries of the world. Most of the courses in the Dhaka Language Club have a duration of three months. There are special discounts for students. The class timings are planned in such a manner that it suits the convenience of all its students.

There is also a special Bangla Course which is open only to foreigners. Most of the teachers have foreign degrees and are specialised in their choice of language. A quilt neighbourhood monthly seminars, regular communications with the members are some other points that are worth  mentioning.   This  club has a free orientation facility so that a would-be  member can understand if and how the course will facilitate  him/ her, Apart from Language classes, IELTS and TOEFL preparation courses are also taken here .

Dhaka Language Club situated in Road # 01, House # 171, Baridhara DOHS,  Dhaka , also plays a very important role for the students  who wish to study in Japan, Japan is offering various scholarships to students and a course prior to going to Japan is sometimes mandatory to Bangladeshi students. Such courses would be fruitless without learning the language first. The Club also gives free academic and career advice for students wishing to study abroad. They also have  a diploma course in Interior Designing. Which is quite a popular branch of study new-a-days as it can lead to a very rewarding career. A course on Presentation and News Reading is also available of the ‘would be’ News Anchors of tomorrow .

There is a diverse category of people that Dhaka Language Club targets. Many of the students of the club learn the various languages for specific reasons, some for personal gain and for going abroad. Dhaka Language Club is catering to the needs of these 4 people with the hope that they will be able to be dear and competent and will be able to establish himself/herself as a competitive member of this modern world .
