So far over 3,200 Bangladesh nationals repatriated from Maldives

More than 3,200 undocumented Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the Maldives have been repatriated so far through the government-initiated evacuation process of undocumented workers in the country, reported Raajji.mv, a Maldives based news portal on Saturday.

In a publication on Saturday, the ministry of foreign affairs of Maldives revealed that a total of 3,269 undocumented Bangladeshi workers were sent back home till the day.

187 undocumented Bangladeshi workers were repatriated on Saturday alone, the report said.

The workers were sent back to Bangladesh through a Dhaka-bound flight of Maldivian national airline.

Maldives president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, while addressing the nation during COVID-19 crisis in May, announced that over 1,500 undocumented migrant workers would be repatriated from the country.
