6 get life for murder in Habiganj

A court here on Monday (April 8) convicted and sentenced six people to life imprisonment for murdering a man in Ajmiriganj upazila in 2005.

The convicts are –Moshahid Miah, son of Safar Ali; Mohan Miah, son of Shamsul Huq; Ziaur Miah, son of Golam Mawla; Wahab Ullah, son of Rahman Ullah; and Chan Miah and Dilu Mian, sons of Abul Hossian of Jalsukha village of the upazila.

Judge Nasim Reza of Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court also acquitted 14 other accused as the charges against them could not be proven.

Six convicted persons were sent to jail, Md Al Amin, inspector of Habiganj Court outpost, told Banglanews.

According to case statement, the convicts hacked Tuton Miah to death at Hakdair Beel of Ajmiriganj Upazila on the night of October 30, in 2005.

Later on November 15, Anwara begum, wife of the deceased, filed a murder case with Habiganj court accusing 20 people the next day.

Police filed charge sheet in court on March 19 of the following year against 20 suspects.

After examining all the records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict in presence of the accused.
