Tension on the Dhaka University campus has defused as Chhatra League welcomed DUCSU VP-elect Nurul Haq Nur yesterday afternoon. Showing a positive gesture, Nur announced to withdraw their class-boycott program.
BCL president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon, who was defeated to Nur on Monday’s Ducsu polls, received Nur at TSC around 4:20pm along with his supporters and embraced him amid the presence of leaders and activists of other student organizations. In the evening, Nurul Haque Nur also demanded reelection to all the posts of DCUSU except the posts of VP and social welfare affair secretary hours after he withdrew the class boycotting program.
The new VP said, “As there were huge irregularities in the polls and vote rigging, I want fresh election in all posts”.However, election boycotted panels including left leaning alliance, quota reformists and independent candidates at a press conference also issued three day ultimatum for announcing the reschedule of the election and holding a fresh poll by March 31 as per HC order.
Earlier election boycotted panels candidates held a rally at the altar of Raju Sculpture led by newly elected VP Nurul demanded rescheduling of the election following it BCL men attacked the rally targeting Nur that leaves two injured.
According to the final result,  Nur bagged 11062 voters while his rival from BCL panel Shovon secured 9129 votes. Quota leader Rashed khan candidate for GS post garnered 6063 votes while elected Golam Rabbani earned 10484 votes.
Elected AGS Saddam Hossein from BCL panel secured 15301 votes while his rival from quota papanel Faruqe hossain got 5896 votes.Among 25 posts in the DUCSU VP and social welfare affaire post bagged by the quota reformists while other 23 posts including GS and AGS was secured from BCL panel.
However, BCL, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, won VP, GS and AGS posts in 12 halls in 18 hall unions while independent candidates dominated the halls for female students.DU VC came out from senate building after about one hour of confinement following followers of Shovon a section of BCL men staged demonstration in front of the VC’s residence till afternoon.
While demonstrating they chanted slogan against VP Nur terming him as ‘Shibir man’ and demanded his expulsion.In the afternoon Shovon asked all protesting BCL men to leave the place saying them we will work with newly elected DCUSU VP for ensuring congenial atmosphere on the university campus.Shovon, who was also a VP contestant, also called up on all students of the university to accept the result of the election for the sake of
Welcoming the Nur, Shovon said we will work for establishing a congenial environment of the university and Nur will work for enacting BCL commitments to students.Meanwhile, Except JCD election boycotted panels including left leaning alliance led by Liton Nandi, quota reformists and independent candidates also issued three day ultimatum to university authority demanding announcement of reschedule of the election.
They also demanded resignation of those electoral people involved in the election alleging irregularities and vote rigging in the DUCSU polls.They came out with these at a press conference held at the TSC premises in the afternoon where candidates Rahsed and Faruque from quota reformists’ panel and independent candidate ARM Asifur Rahman were present on the press met.
Here Liton Nandi said, they will brought out demonstration from Raju Sculpture to VC office and submitted an memorandum to DU VC with their demands including reschedule of the election Besides, Nurul Haq Nur came under attack at TSC of DU as he arrived here to join a rally to mark his victory in the DUCSU polls.
Nur was speaking to the media when a group of students charged at him with batons and bricks and stones were simultaneously hurled at Nur and his supporters.Moreover,  Four independent candidates started hunger strike at the premises of Raju Sculpture demanding fresh election to the DUCSU and hall union.
They are: Anindya Mondol, 3rd student of Philosophy department was Member candidate at Jagannath Hall union, Touhid Tanjin, 4rth year student of Computer science and technology department was candidate for Student’s Transport affairs secretary post at DUCSU.
Soyeb Mahmud, a second year student of Physics department, was independent candidate for the Literature Affairs Secretary at Shahidulla Hall union.Md Mainiddin, a 2nd year student of Population Sciences department, was an independent candidate for Cultural Affairs Secretary post at Mohsin Hall Union.
