Roundtable seminar held on the role of tourism industry in achieving sustainable development goals of United Nations organized by country’s leading think-tank based non-profit organization Better Bangladesh Foundation (BBF) and the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) participated the program as Strategic Partner.
On 8-August-2018, Better Bangladesh Foundation has organized the Roundtable on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through Tourism held on Wednesday at a city’s hotel in Dhaka.
Col. Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism attended the seminar as the Chief Guest while Image Counselor Masud A. Khan, Chairman and CEO of Better Bangladesh Foundation chaired the Program.
Col. Faruk Khan said in his speech that our government is giving highest priority in this sector as we know if we would like to achieve SDG by UN through Tourism, then tourism can be a powerful vehicle to promote and reach the milestones of the ambitious agenda. He assured to provide all kind of support to the private sectors to grow together. He also thanked the Better Bangladesh Foundation for holding such a timely conference where stake-holders and Ambassadors from different countries joined the program and the presence shows how important the subject is ! He also said Better Bangladesh Foundation and its Founder Masud A Khan is working hard to take country ahead from the strong part of civil society and he said “I am always with him with his nation building endeavors.”
Newly joined Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Tourism Board Mr. Jahangir Hossain delivered his speech from BTB and he said we are giving highest priority to this sector and we are supporting private sector to grow this sector faster. He thanked the organizer for hosting such a meaningful Roundtable where ambassadors from different countries joined to cooperate our upcoming activities.
The Keynote Speaker of the Program Dr. Santus Kumar Dev, Department of Tourism and Hospitaity Management, University of Dhaka has said that Tourism is increasingly recognized as a vital contributor to job and wealth creation, environmental protection, and cultural preservation and poverty alleviation. Tourism and sustainable Development Goals –Journey to 2030 report aims to build knowledge, empower and inspire the tourism Stake-holders to take necessary action to accelerate the shift towards a more sustainable tourism sector by aligning policies, business operations and investment with SDGs.
The Chair and Moderator of the program Masud A khan said, we can imagine a world where tourism can bring Universal Peace and Growth. The key focus being sustainability which by definition means. Sustainable tourism is defined as ‘ tourism that respects both the local people and the traveler, cultural heritage and the environment”.
Ambassador of Thailand Ms Pampimon said, their country is ready to cooperate and invited expert team to visit Thailand to exchange knowledge. Colonel Yury , Difense Advisor of the Embassy of Russian Federation , Mr. Mehdi Torabi , Deputy Head of Mission spoke on the Roundtable and assure to provide the necessary support.
Mr. Rafeuzzaman, 1st Vice President of Tourism Association of Bangladesh TOAB and Mr. Mohiuddin Helal, Tourism Specialist and Ankur Salim Siddiqui , General Manager of LongBeach hotel spoke on the Program among others.
